AMMAN, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- Jordan's King Abdullah II warned on Monday that opportunities for peace in the Middle East would collapse significantly if serious negotiations to solve the Palestinian-Israeli struggle on the basis of a two-state solution are not held. Solving the issue is fundamental towards stability in the Middle East, and would provide solutions for many pending issues in the region, he emphasised in a televised interview broadcasted by the Jordanian state news agency (PETRA). On the Iranian issue, he rejected calls for military action against Tehran, calling instead for a diplomatic answer to the affair. He also noted the right for nations to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful means, stressing at the same time the need to deal transparently with the international community when in possession of the energy resource, including nations like Israel. On the war against terror, he said that certain parties were trying to distort the true image of the peaceful religion of Islam. He also noted strongly that Jordan would target all who threaten its security and the safety of the innocent, expressing his country's right to defend itself against aggressors.
