EU leaders to discuss economic situation, climate change in special summit
08/02/2010 09:15:11 PM GMT

brUSSELS, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- Thhe permanent President of the European Union Herman Van Rompuy dispatched Monday invitation letters to EU leaders setting out out the agenda and the objectives of the informal meeting that will be held in brussels on Thursday.
"The purpose of this meeting is primarily to discuss the direction of our economic policies for the years to come, in the form of a renewed strategy for jobs and growth. This is even more important in the light of recent developments inside and outside the eurozone," Rompuy said in his letter which was released to the press this evening.
"We will also devote some time to the lessons to be drawn from the Copenhagen Conference on climate change. We have to take into account the most recent international developments and reflect on how to adjust to them. Finally, we will look at the way ahead on Haiti," said the EU President in his letter.
Rompuy said he decided to hold his first EU summit in an old library instead of the normal meeting venue at the EU headquarters known as the Justus Lipsius building.
The extraordinary EU summit is to take place in the 108-year-old Bibliotheque Solvay, situated in a small park between the Justus Lipsius building, and the European Parliament in brussels. (end) nk.bs KUNA 082211 Feb 10NNNN¬
