KUWAIT, March 9 (KUNA) -- Preparations are set to be made for a ceremony to award the Kuwait national football team after qualification to the AFC Asian Cup hosted by Qatar in 2011. Government and private institutions in the country are invited to take part in supporting the team through the event, the highest sports authority in the country, Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) announced on Tuesday. PAYS has opened the door for all to take part, after a number of bodies expressed keenness towards contributing in support of the players, PAYS Deputy Chairman Humoud Flaiteh said. The team will be demanded to provide further performances to regain the former position of Kuwaiti football regionally and internationally, and PAYS hopes the ceremony will be a boost for players in these times of local sports administrative strife. Flaiteh hailed the players, mentioning that they were able to achieve qualification through determination and an iron will, despite the tough group they were burdened with. Kuwait qualified to the 2011 AFC Asian Cup coming second in Group B after internationally star-studded Australia, in a group that also included tough teams Oman and Indonesia.
