TEHRAN, July 29 (KUNA) -- Iran and Russia performed on Wednesday a joint military exercise in the Caspian Sea, aimed at boosting maritime navigation and security, and to combat marine pollution at the Anzali Port. Iranian local TV said such joint military collaboration was successfully conducted at the Caspian Sea in order to implement the international agreements which combat oil spills in the sea and precautions to be taken in this sense. A total of 800 military personnel from the Iranian and Russian sides participated in the military exercise, plus a group of speed boats and choppers. The participants were trained during the maneuver on ways to deal with a possible environmental pollution caused by oil leakage into the sea, and to rescue individuals from the sea should their vessels sink or be involved in an accident.
